sunday sammies: folk yard

I am well aware that my last post has been well over half a year ago. Life has been busy. Then again, when has it never been? I digress. Today’s focus is on these sandwiches from Folk Yard.

Can we please take a moment to appreciate how cute their bear mascot is. Look at them in their lil’ bucket hat, all ready to go on an adventure with a cuppa-whatever-that-is in their stubby paws. Instantly a 10/10 how can anyone not like bears-

Okay focusing on the food for real now!
I ordered the Breakfast Sandwich ($14) which was loaded with fluffy scrambled eggs—which I’m sure there’s cheese inside—a generous slather of tomato-mayo sauce, and my favourite component of the entire sandwich: candied bacon. Did I mention there was a whole hashbrown in there as well?
It was sure messy to eat but the flavours of everything melded well together; the otherwise overpowering cheesiness of the scrambled egg was broken by the sweet-savoury duo of the maple-soaked bacon and hashbrown.

My friend opted for a meatier option by ordering the Patty Melt ($16), which comprised of a thicc wagyu patty, caramelised onions, and melted gruyere cheese, all encased between two slices of toasted sourdough bread. As a sourdough bread lover, this checks all my boxes. Yes, it was “toasted to perfection”, but unlike most sourdough breads which can come off as dry and cardboard-y, it managed to retain its chewy, slightly airy texture, while having that oh-so-lovely crackly crust on the edges. Yum.
My only complaint would be that the wagyu patty itself is a bit too salty for my taste, but that is easily negated by the faint sour notes from the bread.

The sandwiches are definitely very filling on their own, and as a eat-breakfast-for-anytime-of-the-day advocate, I daresay these are fitting fare for lunch or dinner, not just brunch. Alas, they close at 5pm, so maybe not dinner…but you get where I’m going with this.

So would I go back? Hell yeah.
