the yummiest donkatsu, and a salty brownie
Finals are finally over, which means I get to satisfy all my food cravings which accumulated over the stressful past weeks.
Since I was really craving donkatsu, especially the one I saw from The Butcher’s Dining, I had to go and try it. Of course, dragging a friend along with me to share the humungous portion.
While the highlight of the day was the Old School Duroc Pork Cutlet ($25.80), the Yukke Perilla Oil Noodle with Korean Beef Tartare ($21) was an eye-opener. Since it was my first time trying raw beef, I expected it to have a weird smell but it was surprisingly chewy and pleasant. We finished off the meal with their MIMC Jeju Tangerine Pound Cake ($5.90), which was so good. Pound cakes with thicc icing have my whole heart (and stomach).
Since no cafe-hopping trip is ever complete without coffee, we made our way to Grey Area Coffee Roasters which in the vicinity (a 8min bus ride). The cozy, quiet cafe had great tunes and a small assortment of homemade bakes.
After having a short chat with the man behind the bakes, I learnt that they opened just a month ago. Seeing how the place had a constant stream of customers every half hour or so, their customers must really enjoy the treats and coffee the café has to offer. The baristas/staff made the effort to engage almost all the customers that set foot into the café, which created a very welcoming atmosphere which I definitely enjoyed. The sea salt brownie was my ideal standard for a brownie: slightly crunchy outer encasing a chewy inside; not overwhelmingly sweet , with the salt really bringing out the flavours of the brownie.
If I ever need a place to zen out with great coffee, sweets and tunes, I know where to go.
