catching up over brunch at sunset way

Amidst the finals season chaos, I managed to squeeze out a brunch meeting (which turned into brunch and dessert, but hey, I’m not complaining) with 2 old pals.
We agreed on brunching at Olla Specialty Coffee, a bustling establishment located within Sunset Way.

For drinks, we got an Iced White and Iced Chocolate, both priced at $6.

The highlight, our brunch, consisted of their Mushroom Mac and Cheese ($13.80), Truffle Mushroom Ham Sandwich ($12.80), and Smashing Avo w Scrambled Eggs ($12.80). My friends and I enjoyed each dish, but the crowd favorite would definitely be the Mac and Cheese. The Crisp edges of cheese on the top veiled creamy cheese and macaroni (cooked to just the right softness, may I add) under.

Being the fatties that we are, we walked across to Burnt Cones. I kid you not, it was less than 20m away from Olla.

My mom had been recommending me this place for ages. After visiting here, I could definitely see why.

The ice cream flavours at Burnt Cones were nothing like what I had seen before at other shops. They had around 10 different flavours—so not much variety—but the selling point lies in the uniqueness of flavours offered. We got their Ube, Sesame, and Smoked Cheese flavoured ice cream and they were probably the best tasting ice creams I’ve had by a longshot. The sesame tasted very similar to Hvala’s sesame cake, while my friend likened it to tang yuan. The ube didn’t taste too heavy, and had a deep and rich flavour, while the smoked cheese was a wild ride. Initally, I could only taste the smokiness, but eventually the cheese flavour emerged and it paired lovely with the QQ waffle.

I wouldn’t mind eating the exact same flavours again as I liked it so much. In an ideal world I would have their ice cream for breakfast, lunch, and dinner; alas this is reality and I am a broke student.
